Hello, and welcome to the first installment of Activation Nation! This will be Velocity’s way to connect, share, and allow others to activate their potential via stories of real-life scenarios.
I will jump start us off with the concept of “saying YES to yourself.” I understand the notion that you feel you have so much and so many people to take care of that you will get to you when you have more time. Consider this: When you are on a flight and you are receiving the safety precautions from the flight attendants, who do they tell you to put the mask on first when they drop down from the ceiling? YOU! That is for a reason. It is imperative to take care of yourself first before you can administer help to anyone else.
It is a set up to believe that we can take care or please everyone. Pleasing others is different than being supportive and caring for others. Generosity to others can be very rewarding, somewhat like any gift-giving holiday. The more you give to others, the better you feel about yourself. As long as your motivation is unconditional, you are in a solid space.
Identify what you can do today that would feel like you were saying YES to yourself. It does not have to be anything overwhelming; take a walk, listen to some music, read just a chapter in that book you got four months ago. It is truly your call on what your needs are to make you feel like you are having fun, or relaxed, or satisfied, or maybe you just want to be still. Do it!
At Velocity we believe that when you are ready to say YES to yourself, you will be amazed at what starts to show up in your life. By making the decision to say YES to yourself, you will introduce a new energy to your life. So, be intentional about saying YES to you. Initially, it might be a stretch, but if it were easy, everyone would be doing it.
Remember this: instead of trying to please others, focus on pleasing yourself, at least one person will be happy!
Share with us your stories of saying YES to yourself.
